New Direction

Erica and I have decided to take a new direction with our Random blog, as we haven't been doing ANYTHING with it recently! Both of us have made a commitment to reading the Bible through this year, and even though I am behind, I have faith in myself that I can get it done! God will help me...and so will Erica. LOL So the next few posts will be about our progress, and any scriptures that particularly stuck out to us.

I read Genesis 1-4 yesterday (YES, I really am that behind), and one of the scriptures really stuck out to me: Genesis 1:28 "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."

Maybe ya'll out there in cyber space can tell me why God told them to replenish (def: to make full or complete again, as by supplying what is lacking, used up) something that previously did not exist (mankind.) Help?!

You know Bekki... Genesis 1 kind of confused me too. I don't have an answer to your question, but did you notice in verse 27 it said "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him, male and female created he them"... this was said BEFORE Woman/Eve was created! I wonder what really went on???!!! Were there more than Adam and Eve? If I sound ignorant forgive me, but I just wanna know

If you read the beginning of Genesis, (Chapters 1-3) it looks to me as if they run concurrently. I am certainly no Bible scholar, but the only thing I can think of is that there was some degree of repetition when Moses wrote the events of creation. It looks (to me) like Chapter 1 gives a general overview of creation, and then Chapters 2 and 3 go into depth. That is only my guess, but it's the best I have been able to come up with, even after asking people.

Bro. Booker preached a message a while ago. In it he answers your questions about Genesis 1 (about others maybe being on earth before adam and eve). It's called "Teaching Angels" - best message I've ever heard. He explained the gap theory in it.

Gap theory - "space of time between Gen 1:1 and 2."

There were cities on the earth before Genesis 1:2. (Jeremiah 4:26) Who built those cities?
Satan and his fallen angels were banished to Earth after the rebellion in Heaven. (Luke 10:18, Isaiah 14:12) That also happened before God created human life. (otherwise Satan couldn't have tempted Eve.) So obviously the fallen angels must've built the cities.

That's why the original Hebrew reads Genesis 1:2 as "the earth BECAME without form and void". God's mere angry presence destroyed the earth. And it specifically mentions "cities". (refer back to Jeremiah 4:26)

Now it makes sense why God told Adam and Eve to REplenish the earth, make it full and complete once again.

I hope that answered your question.

btw I didn't research to come up with any of that info.lol I'm not that smart. I got it from others' research...
Bro. Booker's "Teaching Angels"
Bible scriptures that I looked up on Macsword
And Bro. Treece (at our prophesy conference last week)

PS> you really ought to listen to our endtime prophesy conference that we had last week with Bro. Rick Treece. I think it was Sunday night that Bro. Treece talked about the whole "Satan trying to set up an earthly kingdom" thing. You should listen to all four services though. It's very enlightening.

As far as your comment questions go...

Genesis chapter 2 -
4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, AND THERE WAS NOT A MAN TO TILL THE GROUND.

Right there lets us know that it is going back to the creation of man, however delving deeper into it. If it was just another creation of another man, then why couldn't that first guy till the ground.lol

I think your guess is right Bekki.

Jarron,

THANK YOU for giving me scriptures to back the Gap Theory. I have always heard of it, but never has anyone given me a scripture that I could say pointed to that being the truth. Your answer sounds reasonable, and I will have to listen to those messages when I find time.

I DO have a question though, and maybe we should email, as it might get too in depth for commenting, but here goes. So before the earth was destroyed, if there was only satan and his fallen angels, how could Adam and Eve 'replenish' something that hadn't existed? Maybe it's just semantics, but to me, if I am going to use all the sugar in my sugar bowl, I am going to 'replenish' it with like sugar. Not flour. Does that make sense? Or am I just way off in left field?

And thank you for clarifying the other question further.

LOL Maybe the first guy was too lazy, so God had to create someone who would till the ground.

Hey again,
How could Adam and Eve replenish something that hadn't existed? That's a foggy question.lol What didn't exist?

If the scriptures that we use to support the gap theory of creation are not instead prophetic concerning the end of time when God comes back with His saints at Armageddon, then that would mean that the Earth did exist before, and that it was inhabited. (refer back to the theory of who's cities were broken down by God's fierce anger)

"Replenish" merely means to fill again, or to refill. It doesn't necessarily have to be with the same thing that was previously in it.
It was full. Now it's not. Refill it.

What I was referring to was mankind didn't exist before that point, so how could they replenish mankind. But your answer kinda makes sense to me.

Explain why you put in the second paragraph...if you would. Are you saying that the scriptures (I haven't had a chance to look at them yet) might be prophetic instead of historical? This whole Gap theory thing befuddles me, as I have only heard very vague references to it.

read Jeremiah 4. Then read Revelation (the whole book.lol)

Jeremiah 4:
24 I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.
28 For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it , I have purposed it , and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.

Revelation 6:
12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

The question is, was Jeremiah talking about the beginning of time? (earth was without form and was void) or was he prophesying the end of time?

There's probably more scriptures that could help me out on this one, but I'm not really a Bible scholar so to speak.lol

I guess it's not like it's that important anyway.lol not essential to understand for salvation (that's what's really important). I bet your pastor would know more about it probably.

Wonderful! I LOVE this kind of conversation. It's been WAY too long since I have talked about the Bible like this. I am no Bible scholar either (obviously), but it's great to talk about the Bible with people who have some sense of insight.

I completely understand what you are saying about it not being pertinent to salvation. I really just enjoy delving into the scriptures and seeing things that are normally overlooked in every day reading.

I will be sure to read both of those chapters (books lol) so I can see it all in context.
